how does a doctor can check a heart beat of a 11 weeks old pre born baby? by the ultra sound? or the stetoscope? does the doctor have to give a massage to the belly mother to see if a baby is alive or dead?
At the first appt, they usually use a vaginal probe which is like an ultrasound …they can see the baby, and the look for the heartbeat…they also can hear it through the probe. Then after weeks go by, they can use a Doppler, they can hear the heart beat through that, and most of the dr’s will use this at every appt. They can also see and hear the heartbeat through Ultrasound.
But the Stethoscope is not strong enough to pick up on the baby’s heartbeat.
There is no massage, only using the Instruments listed above, and you doing “KICK COUNTS”.
I highly suggest getting a few Pregnancy Books, Like “What to Expect When Expecting” and PREGNANCY: Week By Week. Gives you great info .
