What can I do if my dog has hives on the head and body from a bee sting?

My dog always messes around with bees in my back yard and has been stung several times before. She gets hives on her head and body (all over.) When I brought her to the vet, he gave me some inflamitory and steroid pills to give her. This can get very expensive because it happens every 2-3 months. Is there anything I can give her that will bring down the swelling that does not involve going to the vet? Have you found anything else that works?

My dog gets hive occasionally, too. The vet told me to get liquid children’s Benadryl. Give your dog 1cc per every pound she weighs. You should notice the hives going down within thirty minutes. If not, give her a second dose.

If she doesn’t react to the second dose, then you need to take her to the vet. Better safe than sorry.

The other thing that you might have to worry with is if your dog is very stubborn about taking medicine. It’s easier for me to use adult Benadryl in caplet form. But I don’t know the dosing on that. I’d try one pill every thirty minutes until the hives go down.
