Cold Rock Therapy

My psychiatrist at school refused to see me after missing two therapy sessions.. Need professional opinion..?

I used to see him on campus (I’m a college student.) He was seeing me for major depression that he himself described as “treatment-refractory” I was bed-ridden and just couldn’t make it to the therapy sessions.. I never expected this neither from him nor from the director of the counselling center (whom I emailed about this but got nothing back.) Is this acceptable professional behavior? I mean, how is denying me access to the center services – at a time when I’ve hit the very rock bottom – and causing me to go off my medications cold turkey supposed to help.. I know the center had rules about this but I also thought that these people understand how debilitating depression can be better than anybody else.. I’m thinking I’m just this mad, disappointed and frustrated because I still don’t fully understand the American culture since I’m an international student.. I think I should have got better treatment from them. I’m keeping them employed ! What do you think?

Maybe they think you do not really need therapy because you did not come for those two appointments. Maybe there is a long list of people waiting to be seen. This could just be the way the college operates. They might only allow a certain number of missed appointments. It might not have anything to do with you personally. You could find a therapist on the outside that you can begin working with.
